Is the Base Open or Closed?

Review of winter weather notification procedures

When the weather turns bad this winter, how will you know whether or not ‘‘the base” is open for business or closed? Non-essential employees on board Naval Support Activity South Potomac (NSASP) facilities must adhere to announcements on the radio, television or web that specifically identify the appropriate installation. Dismissal or closure announcements for Federal government offices in the Washington, D.C. metro area do not apply to NSASP bases.

NSASP employs a number of methods to provide official information to all installation employees regarding emergency conditions, to include severe weather announcements. Base status phone lines for both Naval Support Facility (NSF) Dahlgren and Naval Support Facility, Indian Head, provide up-to-date information on delayed openings and closures.

The base status phone for Dahlgren employees is (540) 653-3339 or (540) 653-3224.

The base status phone for Indian Head employees is (301) 744-4000.

Dahlgren employees can also access base status information on the Web at http:⁄⁄www.nswc.navy.mil⁄wwwDL⁄base_status.html.

NSASP Public Affairs also provides official base status information to the following local radio and television stations to include in their reports of weather-related closings.
