What’s Hot in BRAC?
NNMC HOT information
Pediatric Swing Space: The units for this new swing space are scheduled to arrive in early January. Ten 60 ft. units will be located alongside Building 10 once completed. The units will be staged on the front lawn area from Jan. 5 through Jan. 8, while underground utilities and foundation are completed. Placement of the units will begin Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. and will be completed by Jan. 11 at 6 a.m. During this time, access to Brown Drive, from South Palmer Road, will be closed. More information regarding this project will be provided in the coming weeks.
Temporary Emergency Room: There will be several months of renovations to the old Orthopedics Clinic in Building 9, 1st Floor. Demolition work will occur after work hours during the first few weeks, then renovations will occur during normal work hours thereafter. First responders will assist in directing patients and visitors, but all staff members are encouraged to assist. Additional signage will also be posted. It is important to note that the Emergency Department is not moving yet. The work being done is in preparation for the future Emergency Department location in Building B.
North Palmer Road: The new North Palmer Road reopened Monday. With the reopening of this road, 100 plus parking spaces were regained in Lot G. Security personnel will be present over the next few weeks to help to direct the flow of traffic. Patients, visitors, and staff members using this new road are highly encouraged to use caution, obey traffic laws, and reduce their speed.
New Shuttle Service: There are now dedicated all day shuttle services from Building 10 to the Medical Swing Space and from Building 10 to the Metro from 6:10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The shuttles are easily identified by colored signs on the exterior of the buses. Shuttle schedules and maps are located at the lobby of Building 10 and can also be located on the NNMC Commuter Solutions Intranet and the NNMC internet Web sites.
NNMC UNDER construction
New Pathway: Construction on a new asphalt pathway between Mercy Hall and the future site of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence is completed. The temporary plywood walkway that connects Building 10 to the Navy Exchange has been removed. Signs have been placed along sidewalk of South Palmer Road, along the new pathway, to guide patients, visitors and staff members to the Medical Swing Spaces⁄NEX.
Lot G Water Line: Water⁄Sewer line renovations at Lot G begin Monday. The two-phased project will cause a temporary loss of 11 parking spaces from Lot G during phase one, and a loss of 32 parking spaces during phase two. The project timeline was accelerated to coordinate with the holidays and the subsequent reduced demand on staff parking during this time. The renovations will be completed by Jan. 4 and all parking spaces will be available Jan 5.
Logistics Tunnel: Excavation for the underground connection between Building A and the Staff Parking Garage (Building 54) is underway. In January, Brown Drive will be modified to allow the excavation to continue. This modification will curve Brown Drive into the area of the future Patient Parking Garage. The new, temporary, road will include jersey barriers, reflective tape, flood lights, appropriate signage and other safety measures. The temporary road will be place for several months.
Construction Zone: The construction zone is fully operational. Only authorized personnel on official business are allowed in the zone. All personnel must wear proper protective equipment. At a minimum, this includes hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses⁄goggles, and steel-toed shoes. All personnel are highly encouraged to be cautious and careful when in this area. Proper safety gear must be worn.
