Female Soldiers recognized

The 82-minute documentary ‘‘Lioness,” which details the personal accounts of female Soldiers assigned to direct ground combat in Iraq, will be shown today in the hospital’s Joel Auditorium at 1 p.m. After the film, there will be a panel discussion with two of the Soldiers featured in the film and the filmmakers. The event is free.

Chanukah party

The Walter Reed Army Medical Center Department of Ministry and Pastoral Care’s Annual Chanukah party is Tuesday at noon in the Heaton Pavilion’s Joel Auditorium. The Torah School’s Boys’ Choir will provide entertainment and everyone is invited. Traditional Chanukah foods will be served following the program. Winter Celebration Meal

Walter Reed Army Medical Center’s Nutrition Care Directorate will host the Winter Celebration Meal Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the hospital dining facility. The meal will include egg nog, fried zucchini, smoked salmon, cocoa crusted flat iron steak with pineapple salsa, vegetarian paella, roasted turkey and avocado wrap, green beans almondine, roasted yukon gold potatoes, berry trifle, and red velvet cake. Joint Services Holiday Ball

The 2009 Joint Services Holiday Ball is tomorrow in the Show Place Arena at 14900 Pennsylvania Ave., Upper Marlboro, Md. The social hour is from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the ball from 7 to 11 a.m. Tickets are $40, which includes dinner, live music, transportation and child care if requested. Metro make-up distribution

Metro make-up distribution at Walter Reed is scheduled for Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Bldg. 1, lower level, DPW conference room, D-003. All Mass Transit Benefit Program participants must present proper identification, Common Access Card for eligibility. On-line tutoring offered

Child, Youth and School Services offers two tutorial services to the military families: Tutor.com and Student Online Achievement Resources (SOAR). Tutor.com provides free real-time on-line tutoring help for children in kindergarten through college. People can register for an account at www.myarmyonesource.com⁄cyss_tutor. SOAR is a free internet-based tutorial program for students attending military impacted school systems in grades 3 through 12. Register your child’s account at www.MilitaryStudent.org.
