Marines share warrior care knowledge

By Pfc. Christopher Duncan
Col. Gregory A. D. Boyle, guest speaker at the Wounded Warrior service day, shares information about the Wounded Warrior regiment and the importance of providing help for the wounded, ill and injured.
Officers from the Iraqi Ministry of Defense visited Marine Corps Base Quantico for briefs led by Marines on the Wounded Warrior Regiment and The Basic School on Nov. 12.

Currently lacking a formal process for treating its wounded soldiers, Iraqi Ministry of Defense officers met with representatives of the regiment to learn how Marines care for their injured warriors.

Col. Greg A. D. Boyle, commanding officer of WWR, led the discussion regarding the mission, organization and goals of the WWR.

‘‘Within the Wounded Warrior Regiment, we have a number of wounded warriors who come back and work on our staff. My executive officer was severely wounded in Iraq and spent months in Bethesda,” Boyle said. ‘‘Ten percent of our staff has gone through the program. We are in your service and would like to help you out in the future.”

The briefs were not only beneficial to the Iraqi officers but proved to be insightful for the Marines as well. Throughout both briefs, the Marine and Iraqi officers took time to discuss and compare the differences between their militaries’ culture and organization, such as rank structure and education requirements.
