Some Enchanted Evening

The College of Southern Maryland will present Some Enchanted Evening: The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at CSM’s Fine Arts Center on the La Plata Campus. Christmas on the Square

The Town of Leonardtown is hosting its annual Christmas on the Square and Tree Lighting on Washington Street in downtown Leonardtown on Nov. 27 from 5-9 p.m. Enjoy holiday entertainment and music while you wait for Santa’s arrival to light the Town Christmas Tree at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department, the Leonardtown Business Association, and the Commissioners of Leonardtown. ‘‘The Fantasticks”

Newtowne Players is presenting the Tom Jones-Harvey Schmidt musical ‘‘The Fantasticks” Thursdays-Sundays through Nov. 22 at Three Notch Theatre in Lexington Park. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, and 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Thursday-Saturday tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors⁄students⁄military, and $13 for children under 12. Holiday Craft Fair

Town Creek Elementary School’s Parent Teacher Association is hosting a Holiday Craft⁄Vendor Fair Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the school in Lexington Park. The school is in search of crafters and vendors who are interested in participating in this event. The table rental fee is $25 per table. Sotterley Plantation’s pre-holiday Sale of the Season will be held at the Museum Shop on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m.-4 p. m. Shoppers will also receive up to 60 percent off a number of items. Events at CMM

Come to the Calvert Marine Museum will present ‘‘Magic and Mystery of Jellyfish,” a special 15 minute program discussing how the jellyfish are critical to the oyster population in the Chesapeake Bay. The program will run every hour on the hour from 1-4 p.m. Nov. 27.

On Saturday, Nov. 28 the program ‘‘Things you OTTER Know” will share the secrets of the Museum’s most popular exhibit. The exhibit’s interpreter will discuss the otters’ playful games and invite participants to play a game as well to see who knows the most about river otters. The 15-minute program is every hour on the hour from 1-4 p.m.

Back in the boom years of oyster production, there were literally oyster wars going on right here on the Patuxent River. Visit the museum on Nov. 29 to the special program ‘‘Oyster Wars” to learn about the fascinating chapter of Southern Maryland history in a short program that also explores the extraordinary biology of the oyster. This 30-minute program will take place every hour on the hour starting at 1 p.m.

Sotterleys’ HolidayCandlelight Tours

A historical dramatization of life during the War of 1812 will be shown in the Holiday Candlelight Tours at Sotterley Plantation, on Dec. 4 and 5 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. The tours takes place inside the over 300 year old historic Mansion, which will be graced with period decorations.

Sotterley is under siege by the British occupation. The family is determined to hold their annual holiday celebration no matter what. Family and friends join the Platers for an evening quite different from holiday celebrations of previous years.

Live musical performances from local premiere high school choral groups and complimentary cookies will be available in the historic Barn, prior to the reserved tour time.

Household HazardousWaste Day Event

St. Mary’s County is sponsoring its annual Household Hazardous Waste Day Event on Saturday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the St. Andrews Landfill in California.

County residents are encouraged to clean out their barns, basements, sheds, garages, etc. and take advantage of the opportunity to properly discard the toxics that have been lurking in and around their homes.

These toxins include pharmaceuticals, disinfectants, paint (all kinds), stains and polish, solvents and thinners, caustic cleaners (for toilets, tile masonry, ovens, etc.), pool chemicals, lawn care chemicals, pet care chemicals, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides, batteries (all kinds), thermometers, thermostats, fluorescent light bulbs (all contain mercury), aerosol cans, old gasoline, kerosene, and other fuels (even mixed with water) will be collected.

Gingerbread Workshops

The Calvert Library will hold gingerbread workshops for children in first to seventh grades. Two opportunities at offered at each location, from 10-11 a.m. or 2-3 p.m. The event will take place at the Fairview Branch on Dec. 5 and at the Twin Beaches library Dec. 10. Registration is required and can be made online at calvert.lib.md.us. Each attendee should bring a bag of candy for decorating.
