With the kick-off of the Command Climate Survey on Monday, I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight our new Equal Opportunity Officer, LT Bridgette Ferguson and our Enlisted Equal Opportunity Officer, Chief William Triplett.
LT Ferguson was born in Hamilton, Ohio and enlisted in the Navy in May 1989. Following Recruit Training she attended Hospital Corpsmen ‘‘A” School in Great Lakes Illinois. Upon graduation in December 1990, she attended Field Medical Service School (FMSS) at Camp Lejeune and graduated in February 1991. From FMSS she came to the National Naval Medical Center where she worked as an orthopedic and plastic surgery ward corpsman.
During her off-duty time LT Ferguson obtained a Bachelor’s in Art Degree from the University of Maryland, University College in 1998. She was one of 40 candidates selected Navy-wide to the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program and reported to Towson University in July 1998. She was awarded her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing and received her commission as a Navy Nurse Corps Officer in May 2000. During a tour in Naples, Italy that started in October 2004 she held a wide range of positions and collateral duties including being a member of the Command Assessment Team (CAT). She completed her Master’s in Human Relations with a concentration in Counseling from the University of Oklahoma in July 2007. Prior to transferring, she was selected for Duty Under Instruction (DUINS). She completed a dual Master’s, a blended role program, from Catholic University of America, Washington, DC as a Community Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and Family Nurse Practitioner in May 2009. LT Ferguson reported to the National Naval Medical Center in June 2009 and is assigned as the clinical nurse specialist for the Internal Medicine Ward.
Chief Triplett was born in Kilmichael, Mississippi and enlisted in the United States Navy in August 1991. He completed Recruit Training and Hospital Corps School in San Diego, California. He has held a wide variety of interesting assignments throughout many duties stations to include: Naval Hospital San Diego; Naval Hospital Orlando, USS Guam LPH-0 Norfolk, Virginia; Naval Hospital Portsmouth; Naval Hospital Jacksonville; Bio-Medical School, Wichita Falls, Texas; and the National Naval Medical Center. He was selected as Bethesda Sailor of the Year for 2006, National Capital Area Sailor of the Year 2007, and Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Sailor of the Year 2007 finalist. He was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in August 2007. During Operation Enduring Freedom, he was deployed to Kuwait Naval Base and Camp Buehring in support of the Global War on Terror.
Chief Triplett currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is President for Toastmasters International in Germantown, MD, and a member of the American College of Health Care Executives in Baltimore. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Care Management from Southern Illinois University, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Liberty University, and is a PHD candidate in North Central University Organization Leadership Program. Chief Triplett is assigned as the Assistant Command Secretariat Flag Administration Officer in the Office of the Secretariat, serves as the Senior Enlisted Leader for Commander’s Directorate and has been the Enlisted Command Equal Opportunity Officer since September 2008.
Together, these two fine Sailors will serve as primary advisors and subject matter experts to me and provide assistance to other members in the chain of command on Equal Opportunity (EO) issues. They will help me ensure that there is zero tolerance for acts of unlawful discrimination and sexual harassment. They will help to improve the morale of each and every Shipmate of the National Naval Medical Center because each of you has the right to a discrimination and harassment free working environment.
Commander sends.
Rear Adm. Matthew Nathan
