Death Notices

Rader Clinic reduces staffing Sept. 3
Rader Clinic will operate on reduced staffing today with the following services open: Laboratory, primary care clinic, pharmacy, x-ray, community health, physical therapy, behavioral health, pediatrics, EFMP, Tricare service center and occupational health.

The following will be closed Sept. 3: well woman clinic, medical records, immunizations clinic, specialty clinic (includes podiatry, optometry, hearing conservation, physical exam clinic, and MEDPROS). For more information call (703) 696-7951.

DOC's 'A' Team meetings help with contracting requirements
The Mission Installation Contracting Command Directorate of Contracting (MICC-DOC), Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall conducts end of the fiscal year contracting status meetings called ‘‘A” Team meetings. ‘‘A” Team meetings are designed to give customers a one-on-one update on the latest status of any outstanding contracting and acquisition requirements for final expenditure of FY 10 funds.

All ‘‘A” Team meetings will be held at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Fort Myer’s Building 205, DOC Conference Room from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, 10 and 17 and Sept. 20 through 30.

Dive & a Movie Sept. 4
The final ‘‘Dive & a Movie” of the 2010 pool season is tomorrow at the Fort Myer Officers Club pool. The movie is ‘‘Planet 51,” rated PG. Admission is free with gates open at 8 p.m. and show time at 8:45 p.m. Don’t forget to bring your inner tube or just float to enjoy the movie in the pool or relax on the deck. In the event of inclement weather, showing will be cancelled.

Go fishing!
All DoD ID card holders – military and civilian – are invited to join Marine Corps Community Services’ Semper Fit on a fishing excursion tomorrow beginning at 6 a.m., to Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. Lunch & Learn:
Don't lose your temper – Use it!

This class uses a humorous presentation to help us look at the anger emotion and anger behavior. We will discuss triggers and methods of expressing anger without destructive behavior. Fort Myer Thrift Shop reopens
The Fort Myer Thrift Shop reopens Sept. 7 with regular schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Consignments are taken from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Fort Myer's Sheridan Avenue work starts Sept. 7
Road work to support barracks construction will be performed near Fort Myer's Building 249 along Sheridan Avenue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7. Weather permitting, work will continue each day through Friday, Sept. 10. One lane of traffic will stay open, and personnel will be at the site to ease traffic flow. McNair Shoppette to extend hours
The Army and Air Force Exchange Service Shoppette at Fort McNair will alter hours at the Fort McNair Shoppette a half hour early, at 7:30 a.m., starting Wednesday, Sept. 8.

This early opening is a test and will run for 60 days, long enough to determine if sales warrant the early opening. The Shoppette is usually open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday (Saturday hours stay the same).

Zembiec Pool to be dedicated<
Henderson Hall’s Zembiec Pool will be officially dedicated to the memory of Marine Maj. Douglas A. Zembiec Thursday, Sept. 9 at a noon ceremony. The pool will be closed to patrons that morning during ceremony preparation, but will reopen for swimming at 2 p.m.

Major Zembiec deployed from an assignment at Henderson Hall and was killed in action in Baghdad, Iraq, May 11, 2007.

Everyone is invited to attend to honor this Marine. A reception will follow the ceremony.

MDW blood drive to honor 9⁄11 victims<
Fort McNair is the site of a blood drive hosted by the Military District of Washington Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The blood drive will be held in the Fort McNair Fitness Center Aerobics room. Log on to www.militaryblood.dod.mil⁄NCRBethesda and get more information about your eligibility to give blood, make an appointment and create a profile for yourself. Devil Dog 7k Run⁄Walk
Registration is open for the Sept. 15 Devil Dog Run. The 7k race begins at 6:35 a.m. and is open to runners and walkers.

The annual Naval Officers’ Spouses’ Club Welcome Aboard and Activities Coffee will be held at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. Browse at information tables for social and volunteer activities. Book Club:
How to Parent with Your Ex

This two in one flip book addresses the unique concerns, situations and difficulties of both the residential and non-residential parent while helping parents realize that their underlying goals are the same: focus on the child, learn to cope with dealing with the other parent and move forward in your life as a parent. Story Time & Craft Hour

Motor Pool fuel pumps to close for maintenance
Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall motor fuel pumps, Fort Myer’s Building 330, are tentatively scheduled for closure Sept. 16 and 17 for unleaded pumps and Sept. 20 and 21 for diesel pumps. The reason for the closure is to perform mandatory cleaning and maintenance on the pumps.

AOWGWA to meet Sept. 16
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area will host their annual Super Sign-Up Welcome Coffee on Sept. 16 at the Koran Room of the Fort Myer Officers Club from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

ROCKS, Inc. to host Run⁄Walk
The Washington, D.C. Chapter of The ROCKS, Inc., will host its annual 5-Mile Run and 2-Mile Walk at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, Va., Sept. 18, starting at 8:30 a.m.

All entrants and donors will receive a T-shirt and the top three overall male and female runners, finishers and ROTC Cadets in each group will receive awards; there is also an award for the top male and female in the 70+ and walker categories.

Staying Home Alone
Is your child ready to stay home alone? Does your child feel they are ready? This class is for children ages 9-12 and their parents. Parents will learn to develop a safety plan for their children, how to keep communication lines open and develop an awareness of the dangers of being home alone.

Children will learn about handling emergencies, following safety rules and handling feelings of boredom, loneliness and fear. Post and county child supervision policies and guidelines are also reviewed. Class will be held in the ACS Classroom, Bldg. 201 Sept. 18 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Central Issue Facility to close for annual inventory
JBM-HH Central Issue Facility (CIF) will be closed from Sept. 20 – Oct 1 to conduct the annual 100 percent inventory. Normal business hours will resume on Monday, Oct 4.
