Navy women's basketball head coach Stefanie Pemper announced Aug. 6 the hiring of Jenerrie Everette and Maria Noucas as assistant coaches for the program.
Everette arrives in Annapolis after having spent the last three years as an assistant coach at Wright State. The Raiders compiled a 21-15 record in the Horizon League over the past two seasons and advanced to the title game of the league tournament during the 2007-08 campaign.
A native of Muskegon, Mich., Everette is a 2004 graduate of Kentucky where she earned All-SEC Academic Team accolades as a four-year member of the basketball program. She began her coaching career in the fall of 2004 as an assistant coach at Northland High School in Columbus, Ohio. After one season at the school, Everette moved up to the collegiate ranks as an assistant coach at Longwood. Following the conclusion of the 2005-06 season she accepted her most recent position at Wright State.
“I first met Jenerrie at the 2006 Final Four in Boston and have visited with her a couple times since then,“ said Pemper. “She left me with a wonderful impression of warmth, sincerity and positive attitude. It was great to go through the interview process with her and see she still possesses those same qualities. Jenerrie has played and coached under strong leaders and will bring great ideas and creativity to our staff. She will be a terrific mentor to our players and has the competitiveness, integrity and reliability to help us compete for a Patriot League championship.“
Noucas is a 2009 graduate of Bowdoin where she spent her first three seasons as a player under the program's then-head coach Pemper. The captain of the team during her senior season, she helped lead the Polar Bears to four NCAA Tournaments and at least a share of three conference titles. Individually, Noucas earned all-conference accolades during the 2008-09 season and left Bowdoin ranked among the top 10 players at the school in multiple career statistical categories including the most three-point field goals made (sixth) and assists (seventh).
While this will be the first full-time coaching position for the Portsmouth, N.H., native, Noucas has served as an assistant coach for the New England Crusaders AAU program annually since the summer of 2005.
“We held off on hiring an assistant for a year so we could get Maria when she graduated,“ said Pemper. “When I recruited her to Bowdoin she told me she wanted to be a college coach and that passion never wavered. Maria has an excellent understanding of the game, and when she puts her mind to something she accomplishes it. Her leadership this year was instrumental in Bowdoin's transition to a new coaching staff and ability to win another conference championship. This is just the start for Maria but I know she'll have a significant impact on our program.“
