Youth and Family Events

Japanese Anime class
From 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 13, there will be a Japanese Anime class at Customized Creations. Students should bring their own anime to be made into a mural or we will show you how to do it. This class is for beginners and advanced students. Register at Customized Creations (Bldg. 2205) by Aug. 12. This class is offered for ages 7 to adult. Hip-Hop Dance classes
NAS Pax River will be offering two 8-week Hip Hop Dance classes on Tuesdays from 5:30–6:45 p.m. for ages 8-12 and Tuesdays from 6:45-7:45 p.m. for teens age 13-17. Classes begin on Sept. 14. Register at the Youth Center beginning Aug. 2. For information, call 301-342-1694.

Junior Club Championship
The Cedar Point Golf Course will be holding their Junior Club Championship Tournament Aug. 28-29. Entry fee is $30 which includes green fees, prizes and dinner. This will be a 36 holes, stroke play 3, 9, 18 hole flights. Tournament is open to all authorized male and female family members ages 7 to 17. Register at the Pro Shop. Tee times will be assigned. Youth Bowling League Registration
The USBC Youth League bowls on Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. Children ages 7-21 (not sanctioned as an adult) may register on Aug. 28-29 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Bowling Center. For more information contact Michael Bell at 301-342-3994.

Wood Hobby Shop

Basic Wood Working Class
Aug. 23-Oct. 4 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. This is an introduction to basic woodworking with emphasis on shop safety and proper, save operation of woodworking equipment. All students will have the opportunity to construct and finish a quilt rack. Additionally all students will receive an introduction to woodturning, picture framing and matting. Cost for this class is $100 per student.

Junior Woodpeckers and Family Camp
Aug. 25-Sept. 22 from 5-7 p.m. This course is designed to provide the most basic wood working skills to children ranging from 8 to 16 years of age. (Children from 8 to 12 years of age will have to be accompanied by an adult family member.) The project will be a pine bird house that can be painted or finished with stain dependent on your child's wishes. Cost is $60 per student.

Advanced Framing and Matting Workshop
Sept. 29–Oct. 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. In this workshop, the student will learn more advanced methods of framing and matting to include building a frame to size, and matting the product using more advance skills. Cost per student is $50. Student will need to supply a product to be framed and matted. This product cannot be larger than 16 inches square.

Advance Router Workshop
Oct. 13 and 20 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This class will provide the student with an in- depth look at some of the more advance aspects of the table top and handheld router. Students will be demonstrated the use of different profiles and methods used by the professionals. There will be an introduction to the safe operation of the shaper and the different products that it is capable of creating. Cost per student is $50.

Fees for all classes include all materials needed for the course unless otherwise noted. E-5 and below are half price.

Fitness Events
Free personal trainers available to all active duty - Please register at the Drill Hall, Fitness and Sports Office at least 48 hours prior to your first session.

Navy 5 Miler
The Annual Navy 5 miler will be held on Sept. 26, in the Pentagon North Parking Lot. This race is open to the public. Start times: Wheelchairs at 7:50 a.m., Runners at 8 a.m. Register online at www.navy5miler.com by Sept. 17.

Iron Man Triathlon – self-paced
Complete an IronMan Triathlon (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run) in your own time. Register now at the Fitness and Sports Office. Complete the entire triathlon by Sept. 3 and earn a completion shirt. Contact Kerry Davis, 301-995-3869, for information.

Run with MWR
Are you just getting started with your running program, or would like to improve your current program? We meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. (locations vary). Tuesday is interval training and speed drills, Thursdays are a 2-3 mile run or walk. Contact Kerry Davis, 301-995-3869, for information.

NAS Patuxent River’s Biggest Loser
Beginning in September, and running for 10 weeks, you will be challenged to get into shape and lose body fat! Teams of two will compete to be the biggest loser! Weigh-ins will take place weekly. A free last chance workout will occur every Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at the drill hall. Cost if $20 per person, free for active duty. There will be an organizational meeting on Aug. 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bowling Center. Register at the Fitness and Sports Office by Aug. 24. 22nd Annual Team Triathlon
Start preparing your team for the 22nd Annual Team Triathlon to be held on Sept. 11. Competition begins at the Outdoor Pool. Each team member will compete in 1⁄3 of the triathlon – .5 mile swim, 13.1 mile bike or 3.1 mile run. Competition starts at the Pax River Outdoor at 8 a.m. Register at the Fitness & Sports Office. Three Club Tournament
