American Legion events

The Arick L. Lore American Legion Post 274, 11820 H.G. Trueman Road in Lusby, will hold its annual golf tournament Friday. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The tournament will be held at Chesapeake Hills Golf Club in Lusby. There will be refreshments on the course, prizes for closest to the pin, a silent auction, raffles and door prizes. An awards dinner will follow the tournament. Monthly meetings for the post and the auxiliary are on Wednesday, June 10 at 7 p.m. These meetings are recurring on the second Wednesday of every month.

Proceeds from all events held at American Legion post 274 go to support various charities, youth groups and schools in Calvert County.

One-act plays

The Newtowne Players will perform five one-acts by local playwrights today through Sunday. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances start at 8 p.m. The Sunday show is at 3:30 p.m. Performances are held at Three Notch Theatre, 21744 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and senior citizens, and $10 for children. Light refreshments and beverages are for sale at the theatre.

Open house at Summerseat

Summerseat Farm will hold its Open House and Community Picnic from 10 a.m.-2 p.m Saturday at the Summerseat Farm in Mechanicsville. Bring a picnic basket and a blanket to enjoy an old-fashioned picnic. Other activities include educational programs, manor house tours and the opportunity to explore the farm’s 120 acres, the vineyard and the gardens. This event is free of charge. Trails Day at St. Mary’s City

Celebrate National Trails Day at Historic St. Mary’s City when the Chesapeake Running Club hosts a 5K fun run and walk at 8 a.m. Saturday. Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m. The registration fee is $12; the first 30 entrants will receive a National Trails Day T-shirt. Post-run drinks and snacks will be available. Cub Scout fundraiser

Children’s Day on the Farm

Crab cake dinner

St. George’s Episcopal Church in Valley Lee will hold its annual crab cake dinner from 1-7 p.m. Saturday in the church Parish Hall, 44965 Blake Creek Road (Route 244). 60 million years in Australia

Dr. Karen Roberts will present ‘‘The Evolving Ark: 60 Million Years of Life and Land in Australia” at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Calvert Marine Museum. The lecture is hosted by the CMM Fossil Club and sponsored by the Clarissa and Lincoln Dryden Endowment for Paleontology. Admission is free. Sailing camps

The Southern Maryland Sailing Association is hosting Summer Sailing Day Camps for children ages 6-16. There will be nine camps running one week each, conducted by a U.S. Sailing-certified instructor and two assistants. They will be conducted at the association’s clubhouse in Solomons and on small craft.

St. Michael’s School Auction and yard sale

St. Michael’s School will host its annual Auction at 4 p.m. June 12 at the school, 16560 Three Notch Road in Ridge. The silent auction begins at 5 p.m. and live bidding begins at 7:30 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A cash bar and baked goods will be available. In conjunction with this event, the school will host a yard sale beginning at 8 a.m. Friday and from 7 a.m.-10 a.m. Saturday. Calvert Hospice camps

Camp Phoenix, a summer day camp for children and teens ages 7-15 who are grieving the loss of someone close, will have two sessions this year. The first is July 8-10 at Kings Landing Park in Huntingtown. The second is Aug. 5-7 at St. John’s Youth Center in Lusby. Both are 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. New this year will be Teen Phoenix, an overnight retreat developed specifically for teens ages 14-18. Maryland’s 375th

Maryland’s 375th birthday will be celebrated June 20 at Historic St. Mary’s City. Open Skate Nights

Library art contest

The Southern Maryland Regional Library System is sponsoring an art contest open to any artist 15 or older. The contest is for two-dimensional artwork (works on paper — paintings, collages, photos, etc.) The winning art will be used on the cover of ‘‘Changing Landscapes in Southern Maryland,” a book being produced by the library system in celebration of its 40th year of service.
