DUMC Hosts Relay Carnival May 7
There will be a Relay for Life Carnival on May 6 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Dahlgren United Methodist Church on 14th Street in Dahlgren. Event will include games, face painting, food, stories, animals, ice cream, crafts, unicycle riders, music, a bee display, health booth, parent information booth, bake shop, KG County Sheriff's Dept. display with Kid I.D. and more! All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.

KGHS Theater Department Presents“West Side Story“
The King George High School Theatre Department will perform “West Side Story“ May 11-14 at 7 p.m. nightly in the King George High School Auditorium. Cost is $10. Dinner will also served at 5:30 for a cost of $8. All proceeds from the Wednesday night performance will assist Micah Ecumenical Ministries, Hope House, the Thurman Brisben Shelter all in Fredericksburg and The Haven in Warsaw. Canned and boxed food, paper products, cleaning supplies and toiletries will be collected at each performance.

Enjoy Second Friday Art Walk at the Beach
On the Second Friday of every month, the Colonial Beach Artists' Guild presents the Second Friday Art Walk. The next event will be May 13, rain or shine.

All art spaces are open from 6-8 p.m.; Jarrett Thor Fine Arts and Wide River Gallery are open to 9 p.m. New exhibits are shown in each art location every month. Currently on display is a wide variety of photography, painting, pottery, sculpture, quilting and jewelry.

Free refreshments are served at many of the art walk locations, and a free golf cart taxi runs to all locations, weather permitting, until 9 p.m.

Visitors can park free at the Potomac Fisheries Commission parking lot at 222 Taylor St. and ride the taxi to every location if you cannot or don't want to walk. From Rt. 205 in Colonial Beach, turn left on Colonial Ave., right on Washington St., left on Wilder to Taylor St.

King George Relay For Life on May 21
King George Relay For Life will be held on Sat., May 21 at the King George Middle School at the corner of Rt. 3⁄Rt. 206 in King George. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. To register your team or for more info, visit www.relayforlife.org⁄kinggeorge.

KG Fire & Rescue to Hold Golf Tournament
King George Fire & Rescue will hold a golf tournament at Cameron Hills Golf Links in King George on June 4. Registration deadline is May 27. Register before date for $10 off! Check-in begins at 7 a.m. with tee-off at 8 a.m. Cost is $75 per golfer, $50 for golfers under 18. Jermon Bushrod Youth Football Camp
The Jermon Bushrod Youth Football Camp - Visualize and Rize will be held on June 18 from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at King George High School and is open for all youth ages 6 to 14. Sotterley Plantation Offers Half-Price Toursfor Moms
Sotterley Plantation is pleased to announce a special gift for all mothers on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 8. From Noon ~ 4 p.m., mothers will receive the new guided tour of the Plantation House at half price. We welcome you and your mother to stroll the exquisite blooming gardens, walk the plantation grounds and nature trails, see the historic outbuildings including our original 1830's Slave Cabin, or picnic out on the lawn while enjoying the breathtaking views of the Patuxent River. Top off the day with buying a memorable gift at the Museum Shop, located in the Visitor Center. It will be a day she will never forget!

Charles County's 10th Annual Heritage Bike Ride
Don't miss out on a great day of biking through beautiful western Charles County! Riders age 16 and older are invited to join us Saturday, May 14, 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. for a scenic ride beginning at Nanjemoy Community Center. Resident fee: $25; non-resident: $27; add $5 if registering the day of the event. The pre-registration deadline is May 6. Pre-registration is strongly recommended. Lunch will be provided.

The event will start at the “end of the road“ in scenic Nanjemoy, and will feature stops at local points of interest. Participants can choose from three recreational routes -- 100k, 50k or 25k -- all of which begin and end at the Nanjemoy Community Center.

Souvenir T-shirts are guaranteed for all who register by May 6. For those registering after that date, T-shirts will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. Helmets are required for all riders.

Annual Garden Tour at Sotterley Plantation
The Third Annual Garden Fair at Sotterley Plantation will take place the weekend of May 14 & 15 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., offering something for everyone. Abounding with beauty and activity, guests are invited to enjoy presentations, demonstrations, and exhibits on a variety of garden and environmental topics by local experts and University of Maryland Extension - St. Mary's County Master Gardeners. Enjoy artisans and vendors, and take a tour through the magnificent Colonial Revival Gardens. There will be children's programs and activities. Enjoy lunch and sweets in the garden and pick up lovely additions for your garden at the Sotterley Garden Guild plant sale. Also enjoy a petting zoo and kite flying. Plus, the new Plantation House Tour will be offered at half-price, $5 per person, both days!

Bike To Work Day 2011
Bike To Work Day 2011 is Friday, May 20 from 7 - 11 a.m. at the Pavilion on the Village Green. Register at WABA.ORG by May 13 for a free t-shirt and bike raffle. Free food, beverages, and giveaways at the Indian Head pit stop!
