TRICARE Assistance Program Extended
The TRICARE Assistance Program (TRIAP) has been extended through March 20, 2012. This demonstration program lets active duty service members, their Families and beneficiaries use the Internet and a Web cam to speak face-to-face with mental health counselors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year from any location in the United States. The TRICARE Management Activity administers the worldwide healthcare plan for 9.6 million eligible beneficiaries of the uniformed services, retirees and their Families. Lunch and Learn: Discipline vs. Punishment
ACS will hold a class on Discipline vs. Punishment April 5 from 12 – 1 p.m. in the Fort Myer ACS Classroom, Bldg. 201. The class will discuss the difference between discipline and punishment.

Military Child, Abuse Prevention Month
April is the Month of the Military Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month. To celebrate there will be a proclamation signing on Wednesday, April 6 at 4:30 p.m. at the Cody Child Development Center. The event is open to all active duty military, Families and DoD civilians.

Part of Tri-Services parking lot blocked off, traffic disrupted
Areas of the Tri-Service parking lot will be blocked off and traffic on McNair Road will be affected through April 8. Only one lane of McNair Road will be open at times and flagmen will be present to direct traffic. The dates are subject to change due to site conditions and weather. Joint Services Drill
Join the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) and the Military District of Washington at the annual Joint Services Drill Exhibition April 9 at 12:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C. Audiences will see performances from elite rifle drill teams as each service of the armed forces displays their military bearing, strength and dexterity. The event will take place following the Cherry Blossom Parade and is free to the public. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held Sunday, April 10 at 12:30 p.m.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the date they would begin work. Limited positions are available for life guards who will start work after season opening May 28.
Sprint Triathlon
MCCS Henderson Hall holds a ‘‘Semper Fi Sprint Tri” Wednesday, April 13, at the Zembiec Pool and Smith Gym. Check-in begins at 5 a.m. at the pool, with the swim portion and continuing on to Smith
Gym for bike and run events indoors on the spin bikes and treadmills.

AOWCGWA luncheon
Join us for the Army Officers’ Wives’ Club of the Greater Washington Area (AOWCGWA) April luncheon event with guest speaker Sue Hickman. Hickman, quilter extraordinaire, will tell her story of how quilting has inspired her life and brought her to ‘‘nest” in Northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Hickman will display many of her quilts and share how her need for a creative outlet led to a 30 year love affair with quilting.
The event takes place April 21 at the Fort Myer Officers’ Club. Reservations are required and non-members and guests are welcome. Reservations are due by noon, April 15, 2011. Child’s play – fun at the fair
MCCS Henderson Hall presents a Children’s Fair on April 16, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The fair, held in honor of Month of the Military Child, takes place in Henderson Hall’s Smith Gym and on the adjacent PT field.
The theme this year is Country Fair, and activities include a petting zoo, maze, games, prizes, and information for military Families. Food will be available for sale from Gunny’s BBQ on site. Clean-up-our-act time
The Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall Spring Clean Up campaign is April 18 through 22 with April 22 focused on sprucing up the exterior yards around facilities, buildings and storage areas at Forts Myer, McNair and Henderson Hall. The week is also dedicated to celebration of our good earth, culminating in Earth Day April 22.
Along with the clean-up and spruce-up activities, there will be displays and activities focused on Earth Week as well.

Recyle gently used ball gowns
Marine and Family Services is collecting gently worn ball gowns from now until April 29. The gowns will be available for distribution to junior Marine spouses during Military Spouse Appreciation in May. Gowns are accepted Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., in Henderson Hall’s Building 12.

Lenten concerts
The fourth concert will be April 7 at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Chapel— Barbara Shearer, oboe, Carol Kilroy, flue, and Randall Sheets, organ – performing works by Vivaldi, Berthier and Buchtel.
Wright Gate closed to mid-April
Drivers, bikers, walkers and runners will not be able to enter or exit Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall through Wright Gate, which is closed until April 18.
The gate, located at Marshall Drive and North Meade Street in Arlington, will be closed – even to pedestrians and bikers for safety’s sake while workers repair and renovate damage caused by last year’s record snowfall.
Options to enter and egress Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall while Wright Gate is closed:
Hatfield Gate at South 2nd Street on Washington Boulevard, Arlington (Fort Myer’s Main Gate, open 24⁄7)
Henderson Hall’s Annex Gate near the Navy Annex at Southgate Road, Arlington (open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday)
Henderson Hall’s Main Gate, off of Southgate Road and Orme Street, Arlington (open 24⁄7)
Fort Myer’s Henry Gate, at Arlington Boulevard and Pershing Drive, Arlington, will be open for outbound vehicular traffic from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week during the Wright Gate shutdown. Henry Gate accommodates pedestrian in-and-out traffic as do all open gates.
For personnel using the metro, a Metro bus comes directly to Henry Gate from Rosslyn station. Bus riders can take the 4A or the 4H route which comes up Route 50. MCCS Henderson Hall’s Semper Fit division announces the 2011 ‘‘Golf With Us” series of monthly scrambles.
Beginning this month, Semper Fit plays area golf courses, starting at Quantico’s Medal of Honor Golf Course and concluding there in October. Play is open to DoD ID card holders and their guests. Compact for Military Children
The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children addresses key public school (K-12) transition issues encountered by military Families including enrollment, placement, attendance, eligibility and graduation. The compact was created to level the playing field for military children who end up losing course credit and have to repeat courses and end-of-course tests when they move to a new state.
