Spring is just around the corner, and so is the motorcycle riding season. Motorcycle rider training is required for all active duty personnel who operate a motorcycle on or off base. Department of Defense (DoD) civilians must also complete training if they intend to ride a motorcycle on military installations.
The classes are approved by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), and all participants that successfully complete classes will be issued an MSF training card. Once you complete the class you must provide a copy of your MSF card to the Naval Academy Safety Department. Pass and ID will be verifying current MSF certification prior to issuing DoD decals for motorcycles.
Classes are not open to retirees, dependents or contractor personnel. The initial class that must be completed is the Basic Rider Course (BRC). After successful completion of the BRC, you must complete either the Military Sport Bike Rider Course (MSRC) or the Experienced Rider Course (ERC) within one year. All classes are free. MSRC and ERC recertification is now required every 3 years.
Below are two links to register for the 2010 motorcycle training classes taught throughout the Naval District Washington area. Registration can be completed through the Enterprise Safety Applications Management System (ESAMS) or through the Ft. Meade Safety Office. Early registration is encouraged as classes at both of these links fill up quickly.
