Social Work Month events
Walter Reed’s Department of Social Work celebrates Professional Social Work Month during March with two events which participants may earn continuing education units. Today, a six-hour ethics conference, ‘‘Social Work Ethics and the Law,” begins at 8:30 a.m. in Joel Auditorium. The second event is Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Joel Auditorium, when the film ‘‘The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler”, a true story of a social worker who rescued 2,500 children from the Holocaust in Poland, will be shown. Audie Murphy Club induction
An induction ceremony for the Sgt. Audie Murphy Club (SAMC) is scheduled for Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Bldg. 1’s Vorder Bruegge Auditorium. Guest speaker is scheduled to be retired Command Sgt. Maj. Purple Heart ceremony
A Purple Heart ceremony is scheduled for March 26 at 10 a.m. in Heaton Pavilion’s Joel Auditorium. Guest speaker is slated to be Brig. Gen. Jonathan Woodson, assistant surgeon general for Reserve Affairs, Force Structure and Mobilization.

Diversity Book Club
The U.S. Army Garrison-Walter Reed Equal Opportunity (EO) Diversity Book Club meets March 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Doss Memorial Hall (Bldg. 17). Books are available for check out in the post library located in the old hospital (Bldg. 1), Rm. D-110. This month’s session will be sponsored by the EO Office, the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, and the post library. Healing through canine friends
The Walter Reed Traumatic Brain Injury Service and the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center host retired Marine Lt. Col. Jay Kopelman, speaker and author, at the Mologne House Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. Kopelman will talk about readjusting to civilian life post-deployment with help from a puppy his unit rescued in Badgdad. Anger⁄stress management group
How do you cool down before things heat up? One way is to participate in the Department of Social Work’s six-week Anger and Stress Management Group. The group meets Fridays beginning April 2 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Borden Pavilion’s fourth floor DCI conference room. Topics to be discussed include calming down strategies, meditation and cognitive restructuring, and the impact of personal issues and stress on anger. Mario Kart tournament planned
The Patients and Post Library in Bldg. 1, Rm. D-110, will host a Mario Kart tournament Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Wii Lounge outside of the library. There will be prizes and snacks. For more information, call Jessica Champion at (202) 782-6314.

Walter Reed chess tournament
The Walter Reed Patients and Post Library hosts a chess tournament open to all military personnel and civilians March 27 at Abrams Hall’s P2 Conference Room. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the first round of competition begins at 10 a.m. There is no entry fee and chess sets will be provided upon request. Free raffles will also be held after each of the four rounds. Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall, civilians, officers, enlisted, and youth. For more information, call (202) 782-6315.
