Officials urge staff to register vehicles

Walter Reed’s vehicle registration office is in Delano Hall (Bldg. 11), Rm. G-109. The office is open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Military, civilian and contract staff must register any vehicle they regularly drive on post with the Provost Marshal’s Office in the vehicle registration office.

Vehicle registration provides a Department of Defense decal for the vehicle, which is quickly recognized by security offices at the gate and results in much faster entrance onto post. To register a vehicle, staff members must have a valid DoD military or civilian identification card; valid state driver’s license; current proof of insurance; and current proof of emissions test for vehicles older than 1993.

A temporary satellite site for vehicle registration is in Heaton Pavilion’s Rm. 2H26 from 9 to 10 a.m., and from 2 to 4 p.m. today.

The Alaska Avenue gate, near the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, is now a Dod-decal-only gate. Vehicles with no DoD decal attempting to enter that gate will be directed to one of the others gates. The 16th Street gate and the Elder Street gate will continue to allow entry by vehicles with and without decals.

All drivers entering the post will still be required to present a valid government-issued ID card, such as a CAC card, military ID card or driver’s license.
