The Quantico Middle⁄High School Warriors went on the road and tied their first game of the season 1-1 on March 11, as they faced off against Manassas Park High School.
The Warriors played a shaky first half as they were quickly behind 1-0 in the opening minutes. Despite the early breakdown, Quantico managed to play soliddefense, not allowing a shot on goal the entire rest of the first half.
With their defense stepping up, the offense seemed to have problems passing the ball without turning it over. Even with the lack of offensive production, the Warriors defense kept the game within reach at half.
‘‘Our biggest problem the first half is a lack of passing,” said Robert Hume, head coach. ‘‘We keep losing the ball because our guys aren’t marking on their man on throw-ins.”
The second half began with Quantico moving to the ball and keeping possession, but despite the good effort in making the adjustments they needed, the Warriors still had a hard time getting shots on goal. However, Quantico did manage to get a shot on goal that was stopped by the opposing goalie, which prevented a tie.
As the clock ticked away the Warriors continued to fight for possession, never giving up on a play. When it looked like the game would be over, the Warriors broke away and tried for a shot, when an opposing player kicked it out of bounds to prevent another attempt.
With five minutes left in the game, a corner kick from Shane, a senior, to Eduardo, a junior, tied the score with an easy tip in.
‘‘I was at the right place at the right time,” saidEduardo. ‘‘The ball was low, but I was lucky to get a good play on it.”
The Warriors celebrated their score and finished the game with solid defense to keep the game tied 1-1.
