Mitchel Raftelis, mayor pro tempore of the Town of Quantico; Col. Dan Choke, commander of Marine Corps Base Quantico and Vidal Martinez, the superintendent of Prince William Forest Park, talked about the benefit of the park and Quantico working together.<
Marine Corps Base Quantico military and community leaders attended an evening social hosted by the Town of Quantico at the Lillian W. Carden community center, March 10.

‘‘Events like this are important for us to be able to not only continue the relationship but also strengthen the bond,” said Sgt. Maj. Leon S. Thornton, base sergeant major of Marine Corps Base Quantico, during a conversation with Sgt. Maj. Benjamin Hernandez, headquarters and service battalion sergeant major, about the base and town having to work together as a result of them sharing a space.

More than 40 leaders attended the reception Iris Tharp, the mayor for the town, spoke about the healthy relationship the town of Quantico has with the neighboring Base.

‘‘It’s good for Fauquier County, Stafford County, Prince William County and Park services to get together and network,” said Tharp. It’s important we maintain a strong relationship with the Marine Corps, she said, because it is good economic sense for everyone.

‘‘It’s all about developing relationships with the local community in terms of looking at the growth [for the base and town] and working together as a team,” said Col. Dan Choike, the commander of Marine Corps Base Quantico.
