Representatives from each of the five agencies that will relocate to the new building off Russell Road met March 9 for a tour of construction site to discuss plans for organizational art inside the structure.
Due to Base Realignment And Closure, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Defense Intelligence Agency, Air ForceOffice of Special Investigations, Defense Security Service and Criminal Investigation Division will be consolidated into the Military Defense Investigative Agency near the Ponderosa gate.
The new facility will be the focal point of a large portion of the 2,000 to 3,000 jobs that will be relocated to Quantico as aresult of BRAC.
During the briefing and tour, theleaders talked about possible locations for wall murals, which will display artwork unique to each organization.
The briefing was held so each agency could get a better feel for the building’sinfrastructure, said Ron Bittner, theagency project site manager.
Bittner, who serves as the onsiterepresentative between Naval Facilities Engineering Command and the separate agencies, said the expectations for quality will be the main priorities for Hensel Phelps, the company that was awarded the contract for the new site.
‘‘The plan is permanent, but flexible enough to allow for various design ideas,” said David Mecham, the building’s principal architect.
The MDIA building, which is scheduled for completion near the end of December 2010, will include a main foyer that will showcase each of the five sister organizations’ artwork collectively as well as individual corridors where each will have prominence. Plans for three-dimensional artwork have also been made
