The National Naval Medical Center’s Dental Readiness space opened for business Monday, marking the completion of the first half of a two-part renovation in Building 2. The remaining half is closed for renovations.
‘‘The Dental Readiness clinic is where service members go for general dental exams and cleanings and to update their dental classification,” said Lt. Jason Delinsky, health facility planning and project officer for Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bethesda. ‘‘The dental classification is one component of the service members’ overall medical readiness for deployment.”
The new Dental Readiness space opened after eight months of renovations, which included fireproofing and structural work. Its opening was the latest renovation completion since Nephrology opened in January.
The process was delayed because the contractor upgraded the building’s fireproofing due to the building’s old age.
The second part of the renovation in Building 2 began Monday. Once it’s completed in about five months, there will be a new reception area, locker rooms, X-ray rooms and a staff lounge. While under repair, part of the main corridor in Building 2 will be cordoned off.
Currently, the contractor is renovating the Behavioral Health Department in Building 10, which is scheduled to be the next completed project. Renovations are also underway for the Main Radiology Department and the Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology labs in Building 9 and Medical Surgery in Building 10.
