R2R and Irish Sprint set to run March 27

The Run to Register 10K will be held Saturday, March 27 at 8 a.m., at Quantico’s historic Butler Stadium and surrounding roadways, giving finishers, age 14 and above, a highly sought-after guaranteed entry into the 35th Marine Corps Marathon. The R2R is a sold-out event and the first race in the Marine Corps Marathon's Event Series of races held March through November. R2R will be followed by the Irish Sprint at 10 a.m. This is the first time the Irish Sprint will be held at Butler Stadium.
The 28th Irish Sprint is a one-mile fast-pace burst of excitement for runners held at Butler Stadium and surrounding roadways.
The March 27 event is open to all runners ages 14 and above who seek to test their maximum mile speed. Originally held in SanFrancisco, the Irish Sprint will award the Commandant’s Trophy to the military branch ofservice with the fastest combined time of its top male and female finishers.

The following roads will be closed March 27 from 7:45 to 11:30 a.m. for the Run To Register road race:
Anderson Avenue, behind Barber Gym
John Quick Road, both lanes from Hill Ave to Barnett Avenue
Barnett Avenue, southbound from John Quick to Catlin Avenue
Catlin Avenue, whole road
Russell Road, both directions from Purvis Road to Catlin Avenue
Kelton Avenue, whole road
Meyers Avenue, whole road
Dunlap Circle, all traffic coming from TLF, Clubs, HMX, Band and OCS will be re-routed on Range Road and Zelin Road
Marathon offers early registration discount
Special early discounted registration for the 35th Marine Corps Marathon is now open for all active duty and Reserve service members. Registration opens to the general public on April 7 for the Oct. 31 event held in Arlington, and thenation’s capital.
Military personnel from all branches of the armed forces will receive a 15 percent discount applied to the $90 entry fee. Military members can register online at www.marinemarathon.com for just $76.50. The military discount offer concludes on April 6.
More than 6,000 active duty andReservists registered for the 2009 MCM.
In addition to the registration discount, active duty and reserve runners also can take advantage of a 15 percent discount to the MCM’s online training program. Military runners pay $34.95 for the 18-week program that offers daily emails and online tools including a personal calendar, workout log, calculators, route mapping and discussion boards.
