Twenty-four senior leaders from Marine Corps Base Quantico and the surrounding community gathered at The Clubs AtQuantico on March 3 to discuss the six core competencies of the Marine Corps and how the community is involved and affected.
John Rosewarne, head, business performance office discussed the upcoming table top exercise this summer. The purpose of the exercise is to ultimately aid in developingrelationships and understanding issues that affect the many regions around Marine Corps Base Quantico. Community planners will be invited to take part in this exercise.
Lt. Col. Roger Galbraith, director of the Quantico Public Affairs office, addressed the many ideas and concepts surrounding the core competencies which are:
Persistent forward naval engagement
Integrated combined arms, forces andspecialized detachments for service withthe Navy
Joint forcible entry from the sea
Complex expeditionary operations
Lead joint and multinational operations
Enabling interagency activities.
Much of the discussion at the luncheon was rooted in the changes and improvements to the communication efforts with the communities surrounding Quantico in aneffort to strengthen relationships andprovide support for the base’s ability toaccomplish the six core competencies.
‘‘We want to engage the community and see what impacts the people living in them,” said Col. Daniel Choike, base commander here at Quantico. ‘‘We have to articulate why Quantico is here and how that relates to the core competencies.”
‘‘We need to be transparent on many projects involving Quantico,” said Choike. ‘‘Working together is going to benefit all of our missions in the end by allowing us to provide support where it’s needed.”
The quarterly civilian-military luncheons and evening socials provide a great forum for the community and the base to cometogether to discuss items of mutual interest.
