Death Notice
Anyone with debts owed to or by the estate of Command Sgt. Maj. Ray D. Lane, Defense Information Systems Agency, must contact Capt. Fermin Gonzaga, the summary court office for the Soldier. Lane recently passed away March 4. Call Gonzaga at (703) 681-2073.

DC Marathon to shut McNair gates
The D.C. National Marathon, starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, will temporarily close Fort McNair’s P Street and 2nd Street gates from 8:25 to 11:45 a.m. that day.

D.C. Metropolitan Police will be doing rolling road closures to accommodate Marathon runners and will be on hand at Fort McNair to allow exits out of the 2nd Street Gate when a lull in the race allows.

The race begins and ends at RFK Stadium so drivers are urged to avoid traffic arteries near the marathon route. For information on the route and other marathon particulars, go to www.nationalmarathon.com.

Pentagon Blood Donor Center

AOWCGWA Luncheon
The Army Officers Wives Club of the Greater Washington Area will be hosting a March luncheon on Thursday, March 18 at the Koran Room of the Fort Myer Officers’ Club from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The featured speaker will be Donna Engeman, Advisor for the Military’s Survivor Outreach Services. Engeman is actively helping the Army improve its support system for survivors of fallen service members. The event costs $20. Road construction at Fort Myer
Road work which will affect Fort Myer’s Bldgs. 450 (Post Exchange) and 480 (Memorial Chapel) will begin Wednesday, March 17. Weather permitting, the work will be complete by March 23.

The roadway on McNair Road at Carpenter Road, a very busy traffic area at Fort Myer, will be reduced to single-lane traffic during this time, but personnel will be on hand to maintain two-way traffic flow. There may be brief periods when McNair Road would be closed entirely for the delivery of concrete. For more information, call (703) 696-8692.

Lord Fairfax Meeting
The Lord Fairfax Silver Chapter, U.S. Army Warrant Officer Association will hold its monthly membership meeting on Thursday, March 18 at the Kingstowne Library (corner of Beulah and Telegraph Roads), starting at 5 p.m. All active, reserve and retired warrant officers are invited and encouraged to attend. There is such a thing as free lunch
Don’t forget to drop in at Fort Myer’s Memorial Chapel each Thursday during Lent. Bring colleagues and meet in the chapel Fellowship Hall at noon and enjoy a free home cooked meal. At 12:25 p.m., a chaplain will give a five-minute devotional. Catholic mass is also at noon, so mass attendees are welcome to join in the luncheon afterwards.

The remaining Lenten Lunches are Thursday, March 18 and 25. The March 25 event will feature a concert at 11:30 a.m. to close out the series, with lunch and devotional to follow. All members of the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall community are invited. For more information, call (703) 696-6635.

Secrets to Creating a Stress Free Home & School
Parents, teachers and caregivers are invited to join ACS for a free humorous and practical workshop with nationally recognized expert Kirk Martin. ACS is conducting two sessions of this workshop. The first will be held Thursday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Spates Community Club, Bldg. 407 on Fort Myer. The second session will be held Thursday, March 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fort Belvoir Elementary School, Bldg. 1700. These workshops are open to the public. Family, Morale, Welfare and Recreation events

  • Throughout the month of March on Thursdays, participate in the Healthy Recipe Exchange and Potluck sampling. Cook something healthy, bring enough to share to the Fort Myer Fitness Center and let others in on the recipe.   • Get to know one another at the Wednesday, March 17 Spouse Meet and Greet, co-hosted by Army Community Service and the Fort Myer Fitness Center staff.   • Army Ten-Miler qualifiers begin Friday, March 19 (the first in the series of qualifying runs to try out for the Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall running team) and will be held April 16, May 21 and June 11. Registration continues up to 5:30 a.m. on race days and the race begins at 6:35 a.m. Begin and end the 10-kilometer qualifiers at the Fort Myer Fitness Center. Runners who qualify for the team will represent JBM-HH at the Navy Five-Miler in September and the Army Ten-Miler in October. This is a free event.     FAST Classes can raise your GT score
    Soldiers, interested in a promotion or increasing your GT score? Join the FAST (Functional Academic Skills Training) class. The next class goes through March 19; after that, the FAST class is from March 22 through April 9.     Post Exchange shoppers invited to ‘‘sound off” now through March 20
    Participate in the 2010 Army and Air Force Exchange Service Customer Service Survey now through March 20. During this time, troops and their Families are encouraged to visit the exchange to provide feedback on locally available services. Beyond improving the exchange benefit, shoppers who participate will also receive a coupon worth $5 off their next purchase at the PX. The survey addresses customer service, pricing, sales associate availability, merchandise assortment and many more key issues.
