Annapolis Venture Crew

Annapolis Venture Crew 396 is looking for new members, ages 15 through 21, who love the outdoors and wish to learn outdoor leadership skills, planning, preparation, self reliance and team work. Meetings are held on Wednesday evenings 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. in room 209 at Trinity Methodist Church on West Street in Annapolis. Venture Crew 396 is a community service organization that teaches team-building, personal responsibility and self reliance through high adventure outdoor activities such as rock climbing, backpacking, hiking and biking, among others. Prior knowledge of outdoor skills and experience is not a requirement to join Venture Crew 396. The only requirement is the desire and enthusiasm to learn. Black History 5K Run

MWR Fitness will host the annual Black History 5K Run, Feb. 27 at 9 a.m. at the Bay Room, Greenbury Point, NSA Annapolis. The run is open to all active duty, retired military, active reservists, DoD civilian employees, family members, USNA contractors, Midshipmen and guests. Active duty can participate for free; all others including family members are $5⁄person. For more information, call Tony Compton, MWR Fitness Director, at 410-293-9211

Walt Disney World Armed Forces Salute

From now until July 31, active duty and retired U.S. military, including members of the U.S. Coast Guard and active members of the National Guard or Reservists, may purchase a 4-Day Walt Disney World Armed Forces Salute Ticket for themselves and up to five family members or friends for $99. These tickets can’t be used March 27 - April 9 (all parks) and July 3 and 4 (Magic Kingdom only). To purchase tickets, stop by the MWR Annapolis ITT Outlet in the Recreation Bldg. #89, Monday - Friday, 5:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. or call 410-293-9200 to charge tickets by phone.

Oil Disposal Station

The oil disposal station at the Navy Exchange Gas Station, Naval Support Activity Annapolis is temporarily unavailable due to the construction of the new MWR Car Wash in that location. The oil disposal station will be relocated in the gas station compound with expected completion in February 2010. A county waste management facility can be used in the interim. For locations in the county, please call Anne Arundel County Waste Management at 410-222-6100. The nearest disposal station to NSA Annapolis is the Millersville Landfill & Resource Recovery Facility, 389 Burns Crossing Road, Severn, Md.; open Monday - Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed all holidays.

Philadelphia Flower Show

On March 6, journey to the lands of India, Netherlands, South Africa, Brazil, Singapore and New Zealand. Hop aboard to a land of colors and textures with entwined blossoms and showers of tulips and orchids surrounded by waterfalls and wild flora. Cost is $55.00 per person and includes motor-coach transportation, admission tickets to the flower show, and welcome package. Deadline to signup is Feb. 8.

Camping & Sports Gear Equipment Rentals

MWR rents all the camping equipment needed to help you experience the great outdoors. Equipment can be rented daily, by the week or by the weekend. For sports or recreational kits such as softball kits, badminton and croquets sets, footballs, basketballs, volleyballs and horseshoes, or to reserve RV sites at the MWR Family Camp, stop by the front desk of Bldg. #89, Naval Support Activity Annapolis, Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. - 7:45 p.m. or Saturdays, Sundays and federal holidays from 8 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. For more information, call 410-293-9200.

Child Development Center Hourly Care

Hourly care is open to children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years old at the Child Development Center, NSA Annapolis. Reservations can be made up to 30 days in advance and no more than 25 hours per week are permitted for hourly care. Individual Augmentee spouses are eligible for free care by registering with the Fleet and Family Support Center at 410-293-2641. All military and DoD civilian families are eligible.
