The Greater Southern Maryland Chapter of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association will hold its annual dinner and installation of officers tomorrow at the Wildewood Woodlands Grill. STEM open houses
Tonight is the first of three Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) open houses. This is an opportunity for interested students who will be in grades 4, 6 and 9 during the 2008-2009 school year and their parents to learn about the elementary, middle and high school STEM Academies. The three open houses, all 6 - 7:30 p.m., are tonight at Great Mills High School, Monday at Lexington Park Elementary School, and Feb. 7 at Spring Ridge Middle School. Film music concert
The St. Mary’s College of Maryland Orchestra will perform music from the golden age of cinema tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Montgomery Hall 25. Do we belong in the universe?
‘‘Do we belong in this universe, and could we know” will be the subject of a free lecture Saturday, 2:30 p.m. at the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons. The lecture, presented by Dr. Steve Freeland, of the UMBC Department of Biological Sciences, will focus on the evolution of life in the universe and the wonders of our genetic code that made this evolution possible. ‘‘The Jungle Book” at CSM
A classic children’s story comes to the stage when the College of Southern Maryland’s Children’s Theatre Company presents ‘‘The Jungle Book” this weekend in the Fine Arts Center at the CSM La Plata campus. Based on the story by Rudyard Kipling, it is the story of Mowgli, a young boy raised by wolves and whose best friends are Baloo the bear and Bagheera the black panther. ‘‘America by Food” exhibit
The Calvert County Library in Prince Frederick is hosting the Smithsonian Institutions exhibit ‘‘Key Ingredients: America by Food” through Feb. 23. Several events have been planned to complement the exhibit, among them a recipe contest with the winning recipes being featured in Southern Maryland restaurants during the last week of the exhibit.
