NDW FFSC offers new opportunities for web based training

Have you ever been in a situation where you were unable to attend a class or workshop because your schedule was too busy before or after the training time, or you did not have transportation to or from the training site? Perhaps the workshop or program you wanted to attend was being offered at a site that was too far for you to travel, or, you were unable to make child care arrangements.

Fleet and Family Support Centers throughout Naval District Washington (NDW) have created a tool called ‘‘Defense Connect On-line” (DCO). DCO is a web-based learning system that allows users to participate in workshops, seminars, and on-line meetings.

With the advent of web-based education and conferencing programs such as DCO, people can learn at the same time even though they are in different places. Learning can now be accomplished while sitting at a desk at work, or at home, or while sitting on a living room recliner.

Starting in 2010, the Fleet and Family Support Centers throughout NDW will be hosting a variety of on-line workshops utilizing the DCO conferencing tool.

The first of these workshops, ‘‘Saving and Managing Your Income,” will be presented by the NDW Personal Financial Program Managers. This on-line workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. The webinars are available to all service members and their families. Additional on-line workshops will be offered throughout the year.
