Recreational Activities
The administrative office for Recreation Activities is located in the basement of Little Hall, Building 2034, Barnett Avenue. The program offers a wide variety of recreational activities designed to help patrons stay in shape and enjoy their leisure time. Golf, boating, bowling, recreational classes, auto skills center, special events, discount ticket sales and more are available. A brief description of individual activities and their phone numbers are listed below. For additional information, call the main office at 703-784-2014. Auto Hobby Skills Center Located at Building 2080, behind Pruitt-Hall Barracks, the Auto Hobby Skills Center provides assistance with repair, maintenance and instruction on automotive needs for Marines and their families. The shop offers the assistance of a certified mechanic and the equipment needed to repair and rebuild a personal vehicle as well as classes in preventive maintenance and repairs. The Auto Hobby Skills Center has a retail area stocked with oil, filters, and vehicle fluids. To get there, take Andrew Avenue, behind Barber Physical Activites Center, to the end of the road. Base Theater Located on the main deck of Little Hall, Building 2034, Barnett Avenue, the Base Theater shows near-first run movies five days a week to all authorized patrons. Bowling Center Located on the lower deck of Little Hall, Building 2034, the Bowling Center offers ‘‘Glo-Bowling,” which creates a club-like atmosphere with a light show and the latest music. Individual units aboard Quantico are authorized to include bowling as part of their PT regimens and have priority for lane usage on Wednesday afternoons. The Bowling Center is available for birthday parties, ‘‘wet downs,” league and recreational bowling. Golf Course The ‘‘Medal of Honor” Golf Course offers eligible patrons, including DOD contractors and all honorably discharged veterans, a wide variety of golf activities. Located off Fuller Road, this facility offers an 18-hole course, practice range, practice putting green, pro shop, locker rooms, banquet-sized pavilion and clubhouse⁄eatery, Mulligan’s. Information, Tickets and Tours Office Recreational⁄Information, Tickets and Tours is located at the Marine Corps Exchange, Building 3500, Russell Road, and offers information and brochures about many local and regional attractions. The staff searches out ‘‘hot spots” suitable for individual and family outings and⁄or tours of special interest to their customers. Rec⁄ITT offers discount tickets and coupons to many local attractions: King’s Dominion, Busch Gardens, Six Flags America, Colonial Williamsburg and the MCI Center. For additional information, call 703-432-8850. A variety of recreational classes in dance, youth gymnastics and martial arts are offered in Larson Gym, Building 2112, Bauer Road. Leisure Travel Located in the Information, Tickets and Tours office in the Marine Corps Exchange, Building 3500, Russell Road. Provides discounts on travel, lodging or combination packages. Lunga Park Lunga Park is nestled along a 420-acre reservoir, located approximately 7.5 miles west of the south gate to Marine Corps Base Quantico on road MCB-4. The park has a wide selection of outdoor activities where you may enjoy the natural beauty of the area including fishing, hiking, camping, boating and bird watching. For more information on acquiring fishing licenses (both base and Commonwealth fishing licenses are required), renting watercraft, or reservations for camping or picnic pavilions, call 703-784-5270. Marina The Marina is located in the town of Quantico at the east end of Potomac Avenue, in Building 25. The Marina has mor than 100 slips, offering daytime, overnight and long-term berthing for boats up to 50 feet in length, most with electric hookups. It has restroom and shower facilities, a pump-out station, and a small resale service that sells oil, gas, ice and other boat supplies on site. Quantico 50M Pool This Olympic-size pool for the whole family is adjacent to The Clubs at Quantico, just off of Dunlap Circle. The pool has both a low and high dive, waterslide, and a beach-entry wading pool. The pool offers a wide array of programming which includes youth and adult swim lessons, lifeguard training, family swims, lap swims, and much more. Athletics The Quantico MCCS Athletic Program is located in Barber Physical Activities Center, Building 2073. The Athletic Program is designed to assist Marines in promoting morale and esprit de corps, while keeping physically fit and mentally alert, and to fulfill the leisure needs and interests of military personnel, their family members and eligible DOD civilians. The program provides recreational, informal, and competitive athletic activities. The sports program is composed of five elements: All-Marine and higher levels of competition, intramurals, varsity sports, recreational and informal walk-in activities. Youth Sports The Youth Sports director and assistance director are both certified clinicians under the National Alliance for Youth Sports and teach training classes for coaches. All coaches are also required to undergo background checks. More than 100 volunteers participate in the Youth Sports program. Semper Fit Branch The Semper Fit Branch consists of a combined arms team of professionals with specialized expertise in sports management, health promotion and education, fitness and road race management, parks, aquatic, and recreation. The branch’s mission is to encourage, support, and inspire healthy life styles by administering a “well-rounded“ program that promotes personal involvement. Walk-in activities refer to self-directed participation in competitive, cooperative, and individual activities. Access to facilities is open, without imposed design or direction. Barber Physical Activity Center The Barber Physical Activity Center is located across from the old power plant, in Building 2073, Barnett Avenue. The facility is open Monday through Friday 4 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday and holidays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. Health Promotion The Semper Fit Health Promotion Center is located in the Barber Physical Activity Center, Building 2073, Barnett Avenue, which is staffed by both Navy medical and MCCS personnel. The Center offers various health and fitness screenings that can be used by a personal trainer or the dietitian to design specific programs meeting individual needs. The Semper Fit Center also provides educational classes and briefs to individual units for annual training and professional military education in support of the MCO on Semper Fit. Physical Fitness The Quantico Physical Fitness Program is located in the Barber Physical Activity Center, Building 2073, Barnett Avenue. Fitness programs include fitness assessment and exercise prescriptions, cardio-vascular conditioning programs, strength training and conditioning, group exercise programs, health promotion and exercise assistance, annual fitness events, the Annual Semper Fit fair, CPR training, massage therapy, the fitness lecture series, and a variety of specialty programs.
