Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR)

NDW, Indian Head MWR supports the quality of life for both the Military and DOD Civilian employees through athletic facilities, fitness centers, recreational programs, child development centers, community activities and various other programs.

Auto Skills Center

The Auto Hobby Shop is a fully equipped, self-service repair facility, which offers three lifts and three bays, Snap-on-Tools Diagnostics Center, drum brake tools, tap and die sets, timing lights, strut compressor, and most other tools and equipment needed. Standard maintenance items are onsite for purchase and professional guidance is available to assist you. Check your vehicle with the ‘‘Mitchelle Information System” which contains information on re-calls, service bulletins and make⁄model updates. All tools andequipment is available on a first-come-first served basis.

Bowling Center

Bldg. D328 downstairs from the Gym Open Bowling: Wednesday 1100-1300 & 1800-2100; Saturday 1800-2100

Thursday & Friday League Nights the Indian Head Division Bowling Center hosts winter and summer leagues, open bowling, youth leagues, and special events. Open during lunch on Wednesdays, you can bowl a game while you eat. A snack bar with refreshments is available.

Reservations can be made for birthday parties and other private functions. The birthday party package includes unlimited bowling and free shoe rentals for one hourly fee. Call the ITR Office to find out about availability.

Child Development Programs

Child Development Center

If you are Active Duty Military, Military Retiree, Reservist on Active Duty, DOD Civilian Employee or DOD Civilian Contractor assigned to Indian Head Division you are eligible to use the Child Development Center (CDC) Programs. Priority is given to Active Duty Military; fees are based on total family income. The CDC provides quality childcare for children six weeks to 5 years of age. The National Association for the Education of Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs nationally accredits the program. Caregivers in your child’s classroom are trained to develop age-appropriate activities for your child. Our CDC models the Navy’s commitment to providing only the highest quality care for your child.

Child Development Home

The Child Development Home Program increases the availability of qualified childcare services for families at Indian Head. The program provides certified caregivers for children between six weeks and 12 years of age in the local community. The Child Development Home Program offers great employment opportunities for military spouses; providers work out of their homes, care for children and have the flexibility to set their own hours and fees.

My Generation Youth Center

The My Generation Youth Center provides before & after school care, open rec, and summer camp programs to children ages 5 (and in kindergarten)-12 years. The program is a member of the Boys & Girls Club of America and provides nutritional snacks, arts & crafts, computer access, stimulating learning experiences and recreational activities to make up many fun-filled days.

Gear Rental

The ITR Office rents an extensive selection of recreation equipment. Available items include: tents, canoes, tarps, picnic tents, tables, chairs, campers, moon bounce, grills, lanterns, sporting equipment and more. Equipment can be rented daily, weekly, or just for the weekend. Call the ITR office for information.

The Globe & Anchor offers pool tables, dartboards, video games and more. A great place to meet friends after work or spend a Saturday evening.

Tiki Bar

The Tiki Bar offers a fabulous view of the Potomac River, a fully stocked outdoor bar, live entertainment most Fridays and special events throughout the season. It’s the perfect place to unwind after work.

Golf Course

The Indian Head Golf Course offers a nine-hole course overlooking the beautiful Potomac River. Open year round, the course includes a driving range, pro shop and a small bar & grill. Yearly memberships, punch cards and daily fees are available. The clubhouse offers club repair service, golf instruction for all ages and frequent tournaments throughout the season. Gift certificates for all of these services are available at the Pro Shop.

    The Indian Head Division Library offers a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction, periodicals, children’s learning, audio and computer resources. Movies are available on DVD and VHS for checkout. Computers are available for Internet access. An extensive children’s area is available with story time offered twice a month. An 8mm movie theatre offers recently released movies to military members and their families on Monday and Thursday at 1800 and Wednesday and Sunday at 1300.

    Marina

    The Dashiell Marina offers 24 slips with electrical and water hookups on an annual or monthly contract basis. A launching ramp is also available with daily and yearly ramp passes available. The marina offers secure boat and RV storage with 24-hour access. Boat slips and storage spaces are available on a status group priority basis.

    The Mix House Conference and Catering Center is the perfect location for wedding receptions, retirement parties, family reunions or any midsized event. With room for 120 people, the Mix House offers a separate bar and kitchen area, a spectacular view of the Potomac River and a seasonal out-door deck and bar area. Catering services are available or you may use your own. Call for rental rates or to schedule a tour of the facility.

    Sports

    Intramural leagues, including flag football, basketball, racquetball, volleyball, softball, soccer, beach volleyball, indoor volleyball and tennis as well as numerous 5k races are offer throughout the year.

    Summer Youth Camp

    Camp Tomahawk offers a summer haven for over 100 youths. This summer program provides 10 weeks of camp, offering a variety of activities such as swimming, baseball, fishing, dance, and various arts and crafts. Specialty camps have included 2 weeks of environmental camp, soccer, cheerleading, and softball.

    The Indian Head Division Pool is an Olympic-size facility open during the summer months. Swimming lessons are available for all ages throughout the summer in two-week sessions. Lap swim sessions and water aerobics classes are available. Military and civilian youth may join the Torpedo’s Swim Team for competition with area swim clubs. The pool’s deck space and small pavilion area make an ideal rental facility for private parties and other functions. Family and single memberships are available to purchase at the pool or ITR Office.

    Teen Center

    The Teen Center provides a wide range of recreational, social and educational activities for children ages 11-17. The center offers a place for children to use computers, play video games, watch movies, play board games, and more. Homework help and supplies such as markers and paper are available for school projects. Programs include leisure skills development classes, special themed events, field trips to area attractions and summer camps.

    Weight House Fitness Center

    The Weight House Fitness Center features a gymnasium, weight and fitness rooms, sauna, racquetball courts, sports program, aerobics room and more. Fitness assessments, personal training, blood pressure screening, body fat analysis, group exercise classes and wellness classes are also available. Stop by during lunch or after work and play some racquetball, take a spinning class or use one of our state of the art cardio machines.
