Post Office and Postal Operations (Military)

The U.S. Postal Service is located on Main Street, next to Postal Operations (Military) Room 1432. Postal Operations acts as the consolidating point for all accountable and official mail processed and distributed for NNMC and tenant commands, as well as personal mail delivery for combined officers and enlisted quarters. Federal Express Mail Services are provided for official mail when destination is 75 miles or greater from place of origin.

Navy Federal Credit Union

Located on Main Street, Navy Federal Credit Union (NFCU) offers a complete range of services and products, with worldwide locations. NFCU staff members are ready to assist you with all your financial needs. Also available are 24-hour NFCU ATMs located on Main Street and at the Navy Exchange. Log on at www.navyfcu.org.

Pastoral Care Services

Pastoral Care Services at the National Naval Medical Center seeks to offer comfort, guidance, and care to patients, staff members and their families. As clinical providers of spiritual care, our chaplains stand ready and are trained to respond to a multitude of needs. We offer a variety of professional services and resources that include:

  • On-Call Services – Chaplains are on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 301-295-1510 during normal working hours (Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or via the Command Duty Office at 301-295-4611 after hours.

Fisher Houses I and II

Fisher Houses I and II are two homes providing temporary residency to eligible families and loved ones who are visiting patients at NNMC. Each house has a comfortable living room with a fireplace and library, spacious dining room, cheerful kitchen and laundry facilities for families to share. Each family has their own private room and bath, cable television, phone, clock radio, and linens. This environment has all the comforts of home and is a refuge for stress-weary families who join together to form a supportive community. All fees are paid by a grant provided by the Fisher House Foundation, Inc. Eligibility information and referral forms can be found at the NNMC website.

Legal Assistance Program

The Legal Assistance Program is designed to provide in-office attorney advice, aid and referral for active duty and retired service members and their families. Legal assistance is rendered by judge advocates certified by the Judge Advocate General, or by his designated representatives. Attorneys are assigned by the Naval Legal Service Office of the National Capital Area. The Naval Legal Assistance Program is limited to matters of a civil nature such as drafting of simple wills and legal documents, advice on contracts, landlord and tenant issues, leases, income tax matters, marriage and divorce laws, and other areas of the law that may concern military personnel, their family members and retirees. The Legal Assistance Office does not provide advice on criminal issues or personal and private business matters.

Human Resources Office

Washington, Bethesda Satellite Office provides Civilian Human Resources Management support to NNMC, the JTF CapMed, and other BUMED Commands within the National Capital Area who look to our team for advice and guidance. The human resources advisors offer specialized services on core human resources management programs such as recruitment, classification, training, labor and employee relations, and equal employment opportunity. The goal is to promote and support strategies that attract and retain a high-performing and diverse workforce, working with our partners to fulfill common mission objectives.

Retired Activities Office

The Retired Activities Office (RAO) provides several services, including helping surviving family members of retirees with benefit information and paperwork, and providing NNMC pre-retirement briefings for active duty personnel. RAO also helps plan and conduct an annual RAO seminar. They provide information on everything from Veterans Affairs benefits to job referrals and relocation services for retirees and their spouses. RAO Bethesda is manned entirely by volunteers and will accept applications from any interested military retirees or spouses, women are especially encouraged to volunteer. Veterans Affairs (VA)

There are three VA representatives available for walk-in appointments on Monday through Friday. Current hours are Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Fleet and Family Support Office

The Fleet and Family Support Office (FFSO) is committed to supporting the National Naval Medical Center leadership in achieving maximum mission readiness. Command, Sailors and family members can access a wide range of services and programs, focused on adaptation to the special demands of military careers, military family life and the need for rapid response to current world events. The FFSO provides transition assistance for military personnel entering the civilian world; information on local, state and community resources; assists single Sailors and families, including financial counseling. FFSO’s deployment readiness programs address specific concerns and needs of service members and their families facing extended separation. To enable family members to maintain a satisfying career through self directed job search, FFSO hosts workshops and job fairs.
