A community where around 16,000 Maryland residents call home, Derwood began its development in 1875, when the Derwood train station opened and the B&O Railroad first came through Montgomery County.

Derwood encompasses about 20 neighborhoods and homeowners associations within the community limits, and lies along the quiet western shore of the small, peaceful Lake Needwood. Among those neighborhoods is Parkside Estates, which spans some 72 acres and has 160 single-family homes.
