Air Force officials announced the winners of its annual Air Force Civil Engineer Awards recently and the housing flight of the 11th Civil Engineer Squadron at Bolling was awarded second place as runner-up in the worldwide competition.
The top prize in the category went to the housing flight at Beale Air Force Base, Calif., as the 9th Civil Engineer Squadron won the Brig. Gen. Michael A. McAuliffe Award.
The McAuliffe Award is presented annually to the base housing flight unit considered to be the best in the Air Force. The award recognized the outstanding performance of Air Force housing units during Oct. 2003-Sept. 2004.
This year's final competition included housing flights from nine medium- or major-sized bases in the continental United States and abroad. Each winter, the McAuliffe Award winner is announced along with several other Air Force and civilian association civil engineer awards.
As runner-up, the housing flight of 11th CES successfully accomplished a wide range of tasks and initiatives including partnering to ensure the best facilities and furnishing in base housing; leading a matrixed general officer quarters "way-ahead" team; and leading the Air Force GOQ policy/ management with a comprehensive flightline briefing/database, a benchmark for all bases; implementing a "furniture showroom" concept in GO housing; and providing unsurpassed service assistance to 700-plus customers per month with a 99.8 percent satisfaction rate.
11th Civil Engineer Squadron Commander Col. Dennis L. Jasinski said he appreciates the outstanding work his squadron members regularly perform each day and he is pleased their collective efforts have now been recognized by Air Force and engineering professionals.
"The leadership provided by Ms. Ginger Speake to the housing assistance, housing facilities, general officer housing and dorm management offices of the 11th Civil Engineer Squadron has made all this possible," said the colonel. "This is the first time in well over a decade that Bolling has been recognized for its consistently outstanding results. These results are constantly reinforced with the very positive feedbacks we received from customers throughout the National Capital Region."
